This beautiful 9ct rose gold antique Albert chain is in immaculate condition for a piece of this age, and these chains are increasingly rare.
Each link is meticulously stamped with the 9ct gold mark, and the chain fastens with two original lobsters clasps, one of which is set so that it swivels. The chain drops down into a beautiful matching original T-bar and bolt ring, which hang from on a jump ring, allowing them to move freely on the chain. The bolt ring would originally have been used to attach a fob.
Both the lobster clasps and the T-bar bear the J.G&S makers mark, and the T-bar also bears the Birmingham (UK) assay office mark, confirming that this piece is English. Although there is no year hallmark - which wasn't required until the 1970s - the style, and the stamps on each of the links indicate that this chain is either Victorian or Edwardian. Measuring 16 inches in length (with the T-bar and bolt ring dropping down by just under another inch) and weighing 40.2 grams, this is a substantial and wonderfully crafted slice of history.
This is a simple, beautiful and versatile piece that can be worn and enjoyed every day.
