This gorgeous graduated Albert chain is new to our collection, and its unusual length - at approximately 22 inches including the original clasps - makes this an incredibly rare antique chain.
We date the chain to the late Victorian or early Edwardian era, identifiable by the intricacy of the chain. Each individual link has been painstakingly stamped 375 (the purity of 9 carat gold) and 9, a beautiful touch that was typical of the era. The chain secures with two 9 carat rose gold 'dog' clasps, stamped with the makers' mark 'J G & S'. At the chain's widest part, the links measure approximately 7.5mm, tapering down to approximately 4mm by the clasp.
The wonderful graduation of the chain means that this necklace - which looks incredible on its own, or beautiful as part of a layered stack - can be worn either with the clasps at the front, the back, or on the side for different looks.
This is a lovely antique chain that has stood the test of time, and which is in fabulous condition for a piece of this age.
