This striking Late Victorian keepsake brooch, dating to the 1880s, is a beautiful example of Classical Revival design, full of fine detail and warmth.
The brooch features rich 15 carat and 22 carat gold gilding, giving it that deep, warm golden tone so characteristic of high-carat Victorian jewellery. Circular in form, it measures approximately 3.1 cm in diameter and has a beautifully raised, layered profile that catches the light wonderfully.
The design flows outwards in soft, concentric sections, with a smooth gold centre leading into an ornate floral-inspired pattern. Fine wirework and delicate granulation are worked throughout, creating texture and depth, while twisted rope borders and small polished bead details add definition. Around the edge, repeating circular motifs and a neatly beaded rim bring everything together in a balanced, harmonious way.
On the reverse, there is a traditional hinged pin fitting along with a glazed keepsake compartment, a lovely reminder that this piece was made to hold something personal as well as to be worn.
The brooch weighs 10.53 grams and remains in very pleasing condition for its age.
